Another day and a different two-way dominant performer for Hilo at Kamehameha Park in Kapaau.
BJ Respicio was sparkling on the mound and at the plate, as Hilo defeated North Hawaii 7-4 in the Little League district championships on Saturday.
In the second day of the Majors (ages 11-12) double-elimination tournament, Respicio fired a three-hitter and struck out nine for a six-inning complete-game gem. He swung a mighty bat, too, and finished with two hits, including a homer.
Owen Arashiro also added two hits and had two RBIs for Hilo (2-0), which draws a bye on Sunday.
Tyson Hirayama took the loss for North Hawaii.
North Hawaii (0-1) plays Ka’u (0-1) in an elimination game at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
The winner gets Hilo at 10:30 a.m. Monday and would need to win twice to earn the district title.
On Friday, Mason Galima picked up the 7-1 win over Ka’u, and also had two hits.
The district champion will advance to states, scheduled for July 25-28 in Waimea.
