HONOLULU (AP) — Central Pacific Bank President Lance Mizumoto has been appointed chairman of the Hawaii Board of Education.
Mizumoto’s three-year term began July 1. He was appointed by Gov. David Ige in April.
The board is charged with forming statewide educational policy, adopting student performance standards and assessment models and tracking school success. By law the governor appoints the chairman of the nine-member board.
The appointment, which was announced Monday, comes after Board Chairman Don Horner announced last week that he would step down July 21.
