Soccer league
is starting up
The Big Island Soccer League is gearing up for play.
The league will feature an adult coed division. The division will be played 7-on-7 on a smaller field, with goalkeepers, no slide tackling and certified referees. The league is open to men 35 years and older, and all women.
“Maui and Oahu have already been running coed leagues for many years now. We have had a successful and thriving Open Men’s league here on the island for almost 30 years now, but there is no venue for the women soccer players to showcase their skills in,” said league organizer Camilo Ramirez. “With the huge increase in youth soccer in America and on the Big Island, there is a growing number of talented, young women, mothers, ex-college players and high school graduates living here that would love a place to bring their families while they kick the ball around, and have a good means to stay in shape.”
The season will run from September to January and the league hopes to attract teams from all around the island. Cost is $75 per player and deadline for team registration is September 15. The BISL is sanctioned by U.S. Club Soccer. Those interested can contact Ramirez at 937-4345 and attend first league meeting on July 25 at the Old Kona Airport Park soccer field.
