4 to Hall of Fame
Dr. Edward Gutteling, De Silva Elementary principal Dennis O’Brien, Hui Kakoo Kenika president Flavio Nucci and former volleyball All-American Edna Togiai will be inducted into the 2015 Vulcans Athletic Hall of Fame.
Since moving to Hilo in 1993, Dr. Gutteling has been a volunteer team physician specializing in orthopedic medicine.
O’Brien was a basketball standout in the early 1970s, which marked the beginning of Vulcans basketball at the collegiate level.
Nucci was a member of the 1998 NCAA regional championship tennis team. More recently, he is involved with East Hawaii’s Junior Tennis program and the Hilo tennis community.
Togiai-Walker earned NAIA and Russell Athletic first-team All-American recognition in 1989 and still holds the single-season records for kills (517), attempts (1333) and digs (557).
The ceremony is slated for Aug. 26 at Nani Mau Gardens. Cocktails will begin at 5:30 p.m. with dinner and induction to follow. Tickets are $50 per person with tables of six and eight available.

Isaiah Kanno finished at 18-over 234, the best score among four Hilo golfers who competed at the junior golf world championships, which concluded last Thursday at courses north of San Diego.
Kanno beat more than half the field of 11- and 12-year-olds, tying for 63rd. With rounds of 81-71-82, Kanno was 19 shots behind the winner.
In boys 13-14, Kamehameha freshman Pono Yanagi was 23-over (81-77-78) and tied for 129th.
Dysen Park’s best round in boys 9-10 was Wednesday when he shot 5-over 67. At 26-over, Park tied for 70th
Michiko Ejima was 59th in girls 9-10, improving each round and settling at 56-over (81-74-69).
