Special Olympics golf tournament
Special Olympics East Hawaii Golf will hold it’s eighth annual tournament Aug. 23 at Hilo Naniloa Golf Course.
The format will be a four-person modified scramble, and each group will include a Special Olympics athlete. Entry fee is $150 per golfer, and Special Olympians will play for free.
The tee time is at 8 a.m. and all proceeds go to Special Olympics East Hawaii Golf.
“The 15 athletes are excited to play,” a release said. “The field is limited to 60 players total, and is expected to fill quickly.”
The entry fee includes the round of golf, cart, lunch, and 19th-hole awards and prizes.

Waiakea grad earns stipend
Waiakea graduate Sabrina Scott, the reigning BIIF Division I Player of the Year at Waiakea High, was given the Na Hoa O Puna Soccer Buddy Perry Scholarship Award, and stipend of $500.
The Na Hoa Cup tournament in December was the primary fundraiser for the scholarship program. Any high school senior who has played for Na Hoa O Puna may apply.
Hole-in-one
Mara Golder recorded her first hole-in-one Monday at Hilo Muni, using a 4-hybrid to ace the 171-yard 16th hole. Witnesses were Todd Golder, Mary Golder and Alana Golder.
