Flight 641, believed to have more than 300 people on board, landed safely in Kona at around 10:40 a.m.
The pilot of the twin-engine aircraft an in-flight emergency, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor confirmed.
A United spokeswoman said in an email the airline is “providing our customers food and beverages and working to accommodate them to their final destinations.”
“We apologize for this inconvenience and will offer customers additional compensation,” the spokeswoman said.
