Waiakea girls volleyball meet

Waiakea girls volleyball will hold a preregistration meeting at 5 p.m. July 31 at Andrews Gym.

This meeting will provide information for parents and girls in grades 9-12 who are interested in trying out for team.

Tryouts are mandatory and will be held 3-6 p.m. Aug. 3-6 at Waiakea gym. Check-in is 2:45 p.m. Aug. 3.

To tryout, all interested participants must have a current sports physical, be enrolled at Waiakea and be cleared by the athletic trainers. Participants are required at tryouts each day.

Waimea youth sign-ups are set

Waimea youth can register for the following sports:

Biddy Basketball (Ages 5-6/7-8): July 27 – Aug.. 12

Age-group volleyball (Ages 9-10/11-12/13-14): Aug. 24 – Sept. 10

Boys Basketball (Ages 9-10, 11-12, 13-14): Nov. 23 – Dec. 10

Uniform shirt and league photo included in $20 registration fee.

Mauna Loa time trial is Aug. 15

The Hawaii Cycling Club’s 17 mile Mauna Loa Training Time Trial and Saturday Ride are scheduled for Aug. 15 at 8 a.m. on Mauna Loa Observatory Road.

Participants can choose between the training time trial and the non-timed Saturday Club ride, which will start immediately after the timed event.

Casual bicyclists can take their time and enjoy Mauna Loa Observatory Road’s spectacular views.

HCC’s famous Talk Story food and beverage station will be at the finish line. Registration will be from 7:30-7:45 a.m. at Kipuka Pu’u Huluhulu (Native Tree Sanctuary parking lot off of Saddle Road)

Either an annual membership or a one day membership is required to participate. The annual membership fee is $20. The one day fee is $10.

St. Joseph High golf fundraiser

St Joseph High will hold a fundraising golf tournament on Aug. 22 at the Waikoloa Kings’ Course. Proceeds will go towards uniforms, equipment and travel expenses.

The entry fee is $125.

First Tee Hawaii

A new session of First Tee Hawaii will start Aug. 1 at Big Island Country Club and Aug. 2 at Makalei Hawaii Country Club. Both sites will start at 3 p.m.

Registration for BICC starts at 2:30 p.m. and Makalei from 2-2:30 p.m.

First Tee is a great program for youngsters from ages 7-18 years old. First Tee teaches golf skills and everyday life skills such as honesty,respect, integrity and confidence. It encourages a fun filled adventure through golf.

Boys & Girls Club golf benefit

Boys & Girls Club Big Island will hold its ninth annual Tee Off for Kids Golf Tournament Fundraiser on Aug. 8 at Mauna Lani Bay South Course.

The youth development organization is asking participants to become a sponsor, play in the tournament, contribute in-kind prizes, monetary donations or volunteer their time

Gold-level sponsors and up are invited to pretournament golfing at Kohanaiki and a pupus and cocktail party Aug. 7.

Battling cancer softball tourney

The Battling against Cancer softball tournament will be held Aug. 29-30 at Walter Victor Stadium.

Divisions are mixed – at least two wahine – and kupuna, and the cost is $200 per team.
