Police have identified the owner of an antique pistol with an ivory handle recovered during a police investigation and arrested a suspect in its theft.

Police have identified the owner of an antique pistol with an ivory handle recovered during a police investigation and arrested a suspect in its theft.

Thanks to tips from the public, officers identified the owner on July 20, police said.

Further investigation led to the identity of a suspect, 26-year-old Chas Akiona of Papaikou, who was in custody at Hawaii Community Correctional Center for an unrelated matter.

Akiona was arrested Friday and charged with first-degree theft. His bail was set at $25,000.

His initial court appearance is scheduled for Monday.

He remains in custody at HCCC.
