Athletes for Life, Inc., is accepting applications for two Larry Manliguis scholarships.
One $300 scholarship (donated by Athletes for Life, Inc.) will be given to a graduate of any Big Island school, and the other is sponsored by the Hilo High class of 1960 and will be given to a Vikings graduate.
To qualify, applicants must have: 1. graduated in 2015; 2. participated in at least one sport during their senior year; 3. minimum 2.5 GPA during their senior year; 4. plan on furthering their education; 5. write a one-page essay on how sports have impacted their life and how they will give back to their community through athletics.

Ages 5-6, 7-8 hoops leagues
Parks and Recreation will hold an organizational meeting at 5 p.m. Aug. 13 at Aunty Sally’s Luau House for an ages 5-6 and 7-8 instructional basketball league.
The meeting is for all teams or coaches interested in participating in the upcoming league in the Hilo District, and it will cover league rules and format, and packets will be issued with registration/waiver forms.
The league is looking to start on Sept. 14, and will be played at various gyms in the Hilo area.

Keaau High bowling practice
Keaau High students interested in participating on the varsity bowling team should report to practice at 4 p.m. Aug. 11 at KMC Bowling Alley.
Practice will be held every Tuesday at the KMC Bowling Alley – fees are $8 for three games each practice session. Bring extra money ($3) for shoe rental if necessary. Students should have valid physicals prior to practice.

Fishing deadline is extended
The deadline to enter the Ohana Shoreline Fishing Tournament (Aug. 21-23) has been extended to Aug. 14. Completed registration forms and payment must turned in to the Department of Parks and Recreation recreation division office at 799 Pi‘ilani St. in Hilo.
Registration forms available at County Parks and Recreation facilities islandwide, S. Tokunaga Store in Hilo and J. Hara Store in Kurtistown. The forms also can be found online at: http://www.hawaiicounty.gov/parks-and-recreation/.
Separate divisions are offered for keiki 5 to 12 years old, teens, men, women, kūpuna at least 55 years old, and ‘ohana or families.
Entry fee is either $25 or $30 per person or family, depending on the division entered. Weigh-ins will be conducted from noon-1:30 p.m. Aug. 23, at Honokaa Gymnasium.
