A tour led by architect/historian Boone Morrison will provide insight into the fascinating history of some of the early families and businesses that helped shape modern-day Volcano.

This historic-buildings walking tour will take place starting at 9:15 a.m. Sept. 12 and include a light lunch after the tour.

Despite Volcano’s wet weather, not to mention the close proximity of Kilauea volcano with its rumblings and emissions, many of the structures built in the late 1800s and early 1900s remain in good condition and still are in use today.

The walking tour will include an in-depth look into several homes and one business, plus include glimpses into Volcano history along the tour route, in the heart of Volcano Village.

The tour is sponsored by the nonprofit Volcano Community Foundation with support from the Volcano Art Center. Participants should wear comfortable walking shoes for the approximately 2-mile route, and bring along water and an umbrella in case of rain.

The fee for the event is $40, with advance registration required.

Funds raised from this event support a scholarship fund that is awarded each year to an outstanding high school senior from Volcano.

To reserve your space, email volcanocommunity@gmail.com or call 967-7366. Reservations will be confirmed when payment is received.
