Hawaii Island Adult Care will host its monthly Caregiver Respite Fun Day from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday at the Hilo Adult Day Center, 34 Rainbow Drive.

The focus of this day is on the well-being of caregivers.

A healthy continental brunch, hand, foot and table massages, and qigong are offered. The nonprofit organization’s event also includes a talk-story, creative activity and informative demonstrations related to some of the common challenges caregivers and family members encounter while looking after their loved ones.

“Our respite care is unique in that as the years go by the caregivers who have met in the support group or at respite continue to support one another throughout their caregiving journey and beyond,” said Maile Young, health services director at HIAC.

“Often you think you are helping someone else only to discover that you have learned to help yourself. What you really find out is that you are not alone,” she said.

There is a registration fee of $10 and free adult care for loved ones. RSVP by calling 961-3747, ext. 101.

HIAC’s mission is “to provide quality care for elders and challenged adults, and support for their families on the island of Hawaii.” For more information, visit www.hawaiiislandadultcare.org.
