The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for Hawaii County.

The heaviest rainfall was occurring over Hilo, slopes of the Kona district, and South Kohala from Waimea to Waikoloa. Rainfall is expected to continue until around sunset.

The advisory is in effect until 7 p.m. but may be extended if heavy rainfall persists.

The county has closed Apelehama Road near Kalopa State Park and Kapuna Road in Ahualoa due to flooding.

All highways are open at this time, though drivers should be prepared for possible ponding, runoff and other hazardous conditions, the county said.
