The Mongolia barbecue scheduled for Tuesday at Kilauea Military Camp’s Crater Rim Cafe has been canceled because of facility improvements.
KMC apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.
Class to cover balanced life
Hospice of Hilo is offering a free class titled, “Balancing Your Four Strengths,” from 4-5:30 p.m. Aug. 24 at its community building, 1011 Waianuenue Ave..
Hospice of Hilo spiritual counselor Phillip Jones, MA, LMHC, will lead the class. His content will be based on an Indian proverb that states, “Everyone is a house with four rooms — physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Most tend to live in one room much of the time; but unless one goes into every room every day, even if only to keep it aired, one is not a complete person.”

Japanese classes planned at UHH
The College of Continuing Education and Community Service at the University of Hawaii at Hilo is offering non-credit Japanese language classes for multiple levels of students.
Classes begin the week of Sept. 7. Longtime instructor, Hiroko Igarashi, will be continuing her popular conversation and reading and writing classes for more experienced students.
Yoko Hasegawa, who earned her B.A. at UH-Hilo in linguistics and recently completed a graduate program at the University of Oregon, will be adding a beginning-level class for those who want to start with the basics.

Salvation Army assisting Saipan
The Salvation Army Hawaiian &Pacific Islands Division is continuing to actively assist with emergency response efforts for residents of Saipan following the direct hit of Typhoon Soudelor.
“Our Saipan Corps officers and approximately 15 volunteers served more than 2,200 meals (Thursday) to those in need and the numbers continue to grow each day,” said Maj. Mark Gilden, divisional secretary for business and emergency disaster services coordinator.
The public can support the emergency disaster services efforts via monetary donations at www.hawaii.salvationarmy.org or by calling the Salvation Army Hawaiian &Pacific Islands Divisional Headquarters at 988-2136.
Gilden said that 100 percent of the donated funds will support the Salvation Army’s emergency disaster services in Saipan.
