Four persons were arrested and two of them charged following a report of an incident involving a weapon early Friday.
At 5:21 a.m. Friday, officers responded to a condominium complex on the 75-5800 block of Walua Road in Kailua-Kona.
A resident reported that he was awakened by a loud banging noise from the condo’s garage. When he went to investigate, he found an unknown man and woman standing next to a parked car belonging to another resident. They ran to a parked gold sport-utility vehicle and jumped in.
The resident saw two other people, one male and one female, in the back seat of the SUV. When he tried to prevent the strangers from leaving by grabbing the keys to the SUV, the male driver pointed a handgun at him and demanded the keys. After throwing the keys into the SUV, the victim left and called the police.
Several hours later, police spotted the SUV in a parking lot on Alii Drive. Witnesses reported seeing two men and two women running from the vehicle and provided their descriptions. Police located and arrested 33-year-old Darren Grace of Kailua-Kona, 21-year-old Dylan Myers of Kailua-Kona, 18-year-old Shivonne Kahee of Kailua-Kona and a 15-year-old girl and took them to the Kona police station. The adults were held in the cellblock while detectives investigated.
The minor was released to family members.
Police determined that the SUV was stolen and recovered it, along with a bag believed to belong to one of the suspects. From the bag and the SUV, detectives recovered a firearm and property determined to have been taken during other crimes allegedly committed between Aug. 18-21.
At 10:30 p.m. Saturday, after conferring with prosecutors, detectives released Myers pending further investigation.
Grace was charged with driving a stolen vehicle, two counts of burglary, eight counts of theft, four weapons offenses, robbery, three counts of unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, two counts of criminal property damage and one count each of trespassing and unauthorized possession of personal confidential information. His bail was set at $279,000.
Kahee was charged with driving a stolen vehicle, two counts of burglary, six counts of theft, three counts of unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, two counts of criminal property damage and one count each of trespassing and unauthorized possession of personal confidential information. Her bail was set at $20,250.
Grace and Kahee remained at the cellblock until their initial court appearance today.
