The Rotary Club of South Hilo inducted its newest member, Kehaulani Costa.

Costa is the executive officer of the Hawaii Island Board of Realtors.

The Rotary Club of South Hilo is an organization made up of local business, professional and civic leaders who meet regularly to form great friendships and do good works.

Sports Hall still taking nominees

The Big Island Sports Hall of Fame is extending its nomination process, and all applications should be postmarked no later than Friday.

Criteria for nominations are at least 20 years of volunteer involvement in athletics, either as a coach, teacher or mentor.

Nominators are asked to send a two-page write-up of the nominee’s background, accomplishments and contributions to the community, along with an 8-by-10-inch color photograph, and the nominator’s name, telephone number and/or email address.

Free wellness lecture in Hilo

Noted television medical expert and Kona resident Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum will give a free consumer lecture on wellness, nutrition, sleep and how to get more energy from 5:30-8:30 p.m. today at the Hilo Naniloa Hotel, 93 Banyan Drive.

Teitelbaum also will sign copies of his latest book, “The Complete Guide to Beating Sugar Addiction.” Audience members will receive a free copy.

Cancer survival film on cable TV

“C – A Celebration of Life,” a documentary film designed to help newly diagnosed cancer patients and their families understand the road ahead — and to have hope they will win the battle — will be broadcast commercial-free at 7 p.m. Sept. 6 on Oceanic cable television Channel 12.

The film explores the cancer journey from diagnosis to survival with 12 incredible individuals, all in different decades of life, with different ethnic backgrounds and different cancers, who have been through the battle and came out stronger, happier and with a greater zest for life.
