Beginning next month, the University of Hawaii at Hilo will host a series of lectures that discuss topics of international relevance or concern.

Beginning next month, the University of Hawaii at Hilo will host a series of lectures that discuss topics of international relevance or concern.

Presented by the United Nations Association of the USA-Hawaii Island Chapter in collaboration with the UHH International Student Services and Intercultural Education Program, the lectures are on the third Thursday of each month. The first will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 17 in Room 301, Campus Center, at UHH.

The featured speaker will be Joe Genz, assistant professor of anthropology at UHH. His lecture is titled “From Nuclear Exodus to Cultural Reawakening: Revitalizing Wave Navigation and Voyaging in the Marshall Islands.” His talk will cover revival efforts and wave navigation of the Marshall Islands.

Genz received his MA and Ph.D from UH-Manoa with an inter-disciplinary and collaborative research project on the revitalization of voyaging and navigation in the Marshall Islands.

The UNA-USA-Hawaii Island Chapter is dedicated to educating, inspiring and engaging citizens to support the principles and vital work of the United Nations.
