An extended furlough inmate was arrested and charged with second-degree escape Thursday evening after he failed to show up for a scheduled check-in at the Hale Nani Correctional Facility.
According to the state Department of Public Safety, Elujino Vasquez Alvarez, a 44-year-old Hilo man, was supposed to check-in at 6 p.m. Alvarez, who was serving a sentence for third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, was arrested by police at 7:40 p.m.
Alvarez’s bail was set at $10,000. His next parole hearing was scheduled for December.
