An Ocean View woman is being charged with arson for allegedly torching the house she was renting Wednesday.

An Ocean View woman is being charged with arson for allegedly torching the house she was renting Wednesday.

At 9:20 a.m. Thursday, Kona police detectives charged 36-year-old Emily Smith of Ocean View with first-degree arson and third-degree assault.

The assault charge was for allegedly striking a firefighter who responded to the house fire on Reef Circle Mauka. He did not require treatment.

After determining the fire was set intentionally, police arrested Smith at the scene. Her bail was set at $11,000 and her initial court appearance was set for Friday.
