Esther Puailiau Brown, 65, of Kealakekua died July 15 at Hospice of Kona Nakamaru Hale. Born in Kealakekua, she was a cashier at Food Mart, a driver for Robert’s Hawaii and Hawaii County Economic Opportunity Council, and ukulele teacher at Hale Hookipa Senior Center. Celebration of life noon Saturday, Sept. 26, at Old Kona Airport Park Makaeo Pavilion in Kailua-Kona. Casual attire; flowers welcome. Mary “Fat” Kehaulani Kaupu, 56, of Kealakekua died Sept. 7 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Pahala, she was a custodian for Konawaena Elementary School and waitress at Regency at Hualalai. Visitation 8-10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kona Stake Center, 75-230 Kalani St., Kailua-Kona. Helen Mitsue Sasaki, 87, of Keei died Aug. 21 at Life Care Center of Kona. Born in Keei, she was a coffee and macadamia nut farmer, and member of Keauhou Kumi and Daifukuji Soto Mission. James “Jimmy” Urubio, aka James Rubio, 82, of Hilo died Sept. 5 at home. Born in Hilo, he was a retired heavy equipment operator for the former Hilo Coast Processing Co., Hawaii Army National Guard retiree and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Born in Honolulu, he was retired field engineer for the former Hawaiian Telephone Co., U.S. Army 100th Infantry Battalion veteran and member of Higashi Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, Hilo Daijingu, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 6, and statistician for AJA Baseball.
