A Kona man was charged with burglary and other offenses after a family caught him raiding their Kailua-Kona home, police said.

Late Sunday afternoon, a 57-year-old man returned to his Hoene Street home and found two men on the lanai. One threw a bag filled with items from the house at the victim and both suspects attempted to flee on foot.

The family was able to hold one of the men until police arrived. The suspect, 18-year-old David Daniel Styopin of Kailua-Kona, was arrested and later charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree theft and unauthorized possession of confidential personal information.

Styopin’s bail was set at $6,000 and his initial court appearance was Monday.
