UH-Hilo golf finishes in 11th

UH-Hilo golf finishes in 11th

UH Hilo opened with rounds of 309 and 302 to enter Tuesday in 11th place. The Vulcans’ final 296 round catapulted them over Academy of Art University. The Vulcans finished at 907, 50 strokes behind tournament champion Dixie State (857).

Freshman Jared Kinoshita and sophomore David Tottori led the charge in the final round with 1-over 73. Kinoshita finished tied for 54th place at 14-over 230 (79-78-73) while Tottori was in 65th place at 23-over 237 (84-80-73).

Senior Kyeton Littel was the Vulcans top finisher at 6-over 222 (76-71-75). Completing the squad were senior Ric Yamamato’s 53rd place finish at 13-over 229 (77-75-77) and sophomore James Coon’s 54th place tie at 14-over 230 (77-78-75).

The Vulcans return to the Big Island before heading to Seaside, Calif., for Cal State Monterey Bay’s Otter Intercollegiate, October 18-20.

Kohala seeking four coaches

Kohala High is currently seeking head coaches for boys soccer, girls soccer, boys baseball and girls softball.

Interested applicants may pick up and submit a coaching application at the school’s main office.

The deadline to apply is Oct. 2.

Keaau seeking pair of coaches

Keaau High is accepting applications for wrestling and judo head coaching positions for boys and girls.

All interested applicants can pick up an application at the school’s main office, 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday. The deadline apply is Oct. 2.

Kamehameha cheer camp

Kamehameha is hosting its fourth semi-annual youth cheer camp from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 21 and Nov. 22.

The camp is open to boys and girls between kindergarten and the first grade.

Registration is $40 for new participants and $35, and the fee is due by Oct. 28.

According to a release, participants will receive personalized instruction on stunting, team-building, cheers, jumps, dance and tumbling.

“This is a unique opportunity to participate in a two-day camp that has been specially tailored to the needs of cheerleaders or those who just want to have fun,” the release said.

King of Concrete finishes Saturday

The final installment of the King of the Concrete skate competition is Saturday at Waikoloa Skatepark.

Sign-in starts at 8 a.m. and event begins at 9 a.m.

The fee $15 and divisions are advanced (18-over), junior (13-17), grom (12-under) and girls (all ages)

‘Run for Dry Forest’

The nine annual “Run for the Dry Forest” trail walk/run at Pu’u Wa’awa’a is scheduled for Oct. 24.

There will be a 5-kilometer run at 8 a.m. or a 10K at 7:45 a.m. which is described as an “extreme trail running experience” featuring a 1,200-foot elevation in the first 3 miles.

Door-prizes and T-shirts for finishers are included, and this year there will be a silent auction as well as a free free (no T-shirt) noncompetitive keiki dash.

Proceeds from the event will be used to support natural resource conservation and management related projects in West Hawaii.

HGEA golf tournament

The Hawaii Government Employees Association will host a fellowship golf tournament at Hilo Municipal Golf Course on Sept. 26, with tee times starting at 8 a.m.
