Hilo Toastmaster Kim Pierce’s oratory skills were on full display during the Area 12 Speech Evaluation Contest Sept. 12 at the W.M. Keck Observatory Conference Center in Waimea.
Pierce advanced to the Division C Contest on Oct. 3 in Honolulu with her evaluation of Gavin Sebastian’s speech, “Focus: The Most Important Tool You Will Ever — Oh Look a Squirrel!” She competed against Toastmaster members from Waimea and Kona.
“Speech contests are an exciting part of the Toastmasters communication and leadership program,“ said Mary Park, Area 12 director. “They challenge members to fine-tune their skills in front of a larger audience. In a club, members are evaluated; in a contest, they are judged against their peers.”
Toastmasters International is a nonprofit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs.
