Faith Leimomi “Lei” Furtado, 62, of Hilo died Aug. 13 at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Honolulu, she was a homemaker and member of Thy Word Ministries and Hui Malama Ola Na Iwi cancer support group. Visitation 10-11 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 3) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. The Rev. Wilbur Meldon Kelly, 86, of Hilo died Sept. 21 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Jackson, Minn., he was a retired minister for Agat General Baptist Church in Guam, retired associate pastor for United Community Church in Hilo, retired American government teacher at George Washington High School in Guam, former chaplain for American Legion Post No. 3 and a Korean War-era U.S. Navy veteran. Visitation 10-10:30 a.m. Wednesday (Sept. 30) at United Community Church, 1110 Kinoole St. Memorial service at 10:30 a.m.. Burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park. Casual attire. No flowers. Marciel “Maldo” Maldonado, 86, of Keaau, died Sept. 23 at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo. Born in Kukuihaele, he was a retired civil servant, former Honolulu city bus driver, former truck driver for Richard Lee &Co., and U.S. Army veteran. Joseph “Charlie” “Rosey” Santos, 64, of Papaaloa died Sept. 13 at home. Born in Honokaa, he was a retired truck driver for the former Hamakua Sugar Co. and D&D Trucking, member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and U.S. Navy veteran. Shinsuke “Shima” Shimabukuro, 96, of Mountain View died Sept. 1 at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo. Born in Pahoa, he was a self-employed anthurium farmer, part-time custodian for Waiakea Intermediate School, employee of the former Standard Meat Market and Hutchinson Sugar Co., U.S. Army World War II veteran of 100th Infantry Battalion HQ Co. and F Co., and Hui Okinawa member. Services held. Survived by wife, Akiko Shimabukuro of Mountain View; sons, Rodney (Susan) Shimabukuro of Pearl City, Oahu, and Burt Shimabukuro of Mountain View; daughters, Cynthia (Robert) Niimi of Kurtistown, Lynn (George) Matsuda and Susan (Paul) Hangai of Mililani, Oahu; half-sister, Eleanor (Henry) Evangelista of Pahoa; sister-in-law, Betty Shimabukuro of Kapolei, Oahu; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Kataru Yano, 99, of Honolulu died Sept. 22 at Palolo Chinese Home in Honolulu. Born in Kawaihae, he was a retired superintendent for Pacific Construction Co. and U.S. Army veteran. Services held. Survived by wife, Eva Utako Yano of Honolulu; daughter, Alma Yano of Hilo; brothers, Shoniro Yano of Honokaa and Yoshiro Yamo of Aiea, Oahu; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
