Honokaa hoops camp Oct. 9-11

The Kalakaua Basketball Camp will be held Oct 9-11 at Honokaa Parks and Recreation Gym.

Featuring Dennis Agena, the camp is open to children in kindergarten through the 12th grade at a fee of $60.

Sessions will be broken down to kindergarten through sixth grade (9 a.m.-noon) and grades 7-12 (1-4 p.m.), and each is limited to 90 applicants.

Applications can be picked up at Honokaa Gym from Cheyenne Meyer or at Honokaa High and Intermediate School (ask for Daphne Honma) or online at bigislandallstars.weebly.com

HI-PAL havoc tournament

The Hawaii Police Department’s HI-PAL program, will host the “Halloween Havoc #8” 3-on-3 basketball tournament in Panaewa. The two-day tournament will be held Oct. 24-25, at the Panaewa covered courts at Panaewa Park.

The age cutoff date is Dec. 31, 2015.

The deadline to enter is Oct. 16. Each team will be required to complete a registration packet.

Teams interested in participating or anyone requesting additional information may call Officer Richard Itliong of South Hilo Community Policing at 961-8121.

‘Run for Dry Forest’ Oct. 24

The nine annual “Run for the Dry Forest” trail walk/run at Pu’u Wa’awa’a is scheduled for Oct. 24.

There will be a 5-kilometer run at 8 a.m. or a 10K at 7:45 a.m. which is described as an “extreme trail running experience” featuring a 1,200-foot elevation in the first 3 miles.

Proceeds from the event will be used to support natural resource conservation and management related projects in West Hawaii.
