Robert Emmett “Bob” Bethea, 85, of Keaau died Sept. 18 at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Augusta, Ga., he was a retired attorney, business and community advocate and past president of Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce, first non-Japanese president of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce, founding member of Filipino Chamber of Commerce and Hawaii Island Economic Development Board, member of Portuguese Chamber and Big Island Business Council and U.S. Army veteran.
