The top teams from the regional competition will qualify for the state tournament in March 2016 on Oahu.

Science Olympiad tournaments encourage teamwork while assessing knowledge and abilities in science, technology, engineering and math curriculum.

The 2016 regional competition will include a broad range of events that test knowledge and understanding in the natural sciences such as invasive species, meteorology, chemistry, astronomy and oceanography. Other tournament events include Road Scholar, Geologic Mapping, Bridge Building, Elastic Launched Glider and a new event, Game On, where participants have 50 minutes to build a video game based on a theme.
