Trash Art Show opens at Hawaii Museum of Contemporary Art

Fifty artists from around the Big Island created works of art out of “trash” on display at the Hawaii Museum of Contemporary Art (formally known as East Hawaii Cultural Center) in downtown Hilo.

The 28th annual Trash Art Show, sponsored by Recycle Hawaii, is open to the public through Oct. 28 at the museum, 141 Kalakaua St.

There is a suggested donation of $5.

“Instead of harming our environment with our trash, we can turn it into art that educates and motivates people to make lifestyle changes,” said Trash Art Show founder and juror Ira Ono.
