Hawaii Island college fairs set
The Hawaii Association for College Admission Counseling will host two fall 2015 college fairs on Hawaii Island.
The East Hawaii fair will take place from noon-2 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Edith Kanakaole Mulitpurpose Stadium.
The West Hawaii fair will be from 9-11 a.m. Oct. 30 in the Hilton Waikoloa Village Ballroom.
Both fairs will feature more than 70 colleges from Hawaii and across the mainland. A general advising and financial aid center will be available to students and their families to answer specific questions regarding the college admission process and financial aid.
The college fairs are free of charge and designed to include all Hawaii Island students interested in pursuing higher education opportunities. Students and parents can attend with their schools or on their own.
Library marking 65th anniversary
In celebration of its 65th anniversary, Kealakekua Public Library will host local well-known musician Brian Kiernan in a free performance from 2-4 p.m. Wednesday.
The Friends of the Libraries, Kona, is sponsoring the event. The public is invited to attend, but young children must be accompanied by a parent or adult caregiver. Light refreshments will be served.

Microsoft Office program offered
The College of Continuing Education and Community Service at the University of Hawaii at Hilo is offering a weeklong Microsoft Office Essentials training session from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 19-23 in UCB Room 105.
The cost is $275 and includes a textbook.
This professional development workshop is designed for those seeking to improve their Microsoft Office skills. Jo’el Nathansen, an instructor with the Department of Education, will provide hands-on training in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, OneNote and Outlook to help differentiate themselves in today’s competitive job market. Certificates will be awarded following completion of the program.
A USB flash drive and the ability to operate a computer are required.
