What’s hiding in your personal care products? A mother-daughter team from the Big Island is finding out.
Malina Fagan and her mother, Lynn Pelletier, of Keaau are producing a feature documentary called “The Coverup” that will “uncover” the personal and environmental effects of toxic chemicals used in everyday cosmetics and personal care products.
The topic is important, says the duo, because much of what you put on your skin gets absorbed into your body and scientists have linked many ingredients in products to cancer, reproductive issues, allergies, asthma and birth defects. Fagan and Pelletier said, “We all use these products and we all deserve to know what’s in them.”
The pair appreciates any assistance they can get in making their documentary and have started an online crowdfunding campaign at kickstarter.com. Those who visit the website — www.kickstarter.com/projects/2020822875/the-coverup-a-feature-length-health-documentary?ref=nav_search — can learn more about the film, see a trailer and donate to receive rewards.
Fagan and Pelletier ask anyone who helps to also share the campaign with as many people as possible.
