Teen Tech Tutors know smartphones

The Honokaa Teen Tech Tutors will conduct a tutorial session titled “An Overview of Smartphone Apps” at 1 p.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in Honokaa.

Participants must bring their fully charged smartphone and a $5 donation. Everyone is welcome.

The Honokaa Teen Tech Tutors are available from 1-3 p.m. every Saturday at the church to answer questions about how to operate a cellphone, iPad, laptop or any other electronic communication device.

Donations from this year’s tutorial sessions will be used to buy a laptop for the Hamakua Youth Center.

Hospice benefit concert Sunday

An all-star lineup of musical artists will perform during Hospice of Hilo’s benefit concert from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the organization’s community center, 1011 Waianuenue Ave.

The performers include Bruddah Waltah, Larry Dupio, Dennis Soares, Christy Soares, Rick Jitchaku and Ronnie Harris.

All artists are donating their time and talent to ensure every dollar raised will support quality and compassionate end-of-life care for patients and their loved ones in East Hawaii.

Ku‘ikahi hosting open house today

In observance of Conflict Resolution Day 2015, Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center is hosting an open house from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. today at its office in the Hilo Lagoon Centre, 101 Aupuni St., Suite PH 1014 B-2.

The event is free and open to the public.

The highlight of the open house is a one-hour “Finding Solutions, Growing Peace” mock mediation session at noon.

Morning and afternoon activities include other mediation discussions and presentations.

Annual landscape conference set

The Hawaii Island Landscape Association and the University of Hawaii at Manoa Cooperative Extension Service will host the sixth annual Landscape Management Conference and Trade Show on Oct. 24 at the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel.

The theme of the event is “Waiola — The Water of Life, Preserving Our Most Precious Natural Resource.” In addition to conserving water in the landscape, related topics include preserving the island watershed, preventing storm-water runoff through low-impact design and protecting coral reef systems.
