The temblor occurred at 8:45 p.m. at a depth of 4.5 miles.

The quake was located 6.4 miles west of Kalapana. It was felt in Hilo and as far away as Hamakua and South Kona districts.

A 3.1 magnitude quake was recorded about noon Friday 8.8 miles east/northeast of Pahala. It occurred at a depth of 2.2 miles.
