Hawaii Electric Light Co. has announced a partial lane closure along Chin Chuck Road in Hilo starting Friday.

One lane will be closed to traffic along sections of the road from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily, including weekends.

The closure will allow utility construction along a three-mile stretch of Chin Chuck Road.

The project will improve system reliability and involves removing and replacing utility poles and upgrading distribution lines and equipment.

Security personnel will direct traffic, and motorists are advised to use caution while driving through the construction area. Delays of up to 30 minutes are anticipated. Construction is expected to be completed by mid-November.

HELCO will make every effort to minimize power interruptions. However, a temporary interruption may be necessary at times to ensure the safety of the crews.

Advance notice will be provided to customers who will be affected.
