HAGATNA, Guam (AP) — Guam authorities have arrested a Department of Revenue and Taxation employee suspected of taking bribes while on the job.
Forty-four-year-old Lourdes Fernandez Blas was arrested and released Wednesday. The employee faces several charges, including bribery, theft and official misconduct.
Guam Police Department spokesman Officer A.J. Balajadia said the employee allegedly issued driver’s licenses without having applicants go through the required process. The employee allegedly collected $500 to $700 in exchange for participating in the scheme.
It is unclear how many licenses were issued “without the required testing.”
Police have arrested two other suspects in the case, 30-year-old Kupwo Kelep Kerwin and 39-year-old Ringko Sammurai. Balajadia said they have also been released from custody.
The case has been forwarded to the police department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
Balajadia said police are working with the Department of Revenue and Taxation to ensure no further abuse of authority has taken place.
