The UH-Hilo men’s golf team has a ton of work to do to bring home the Dennis Rose Invitational trophy at home for a fifth straight year.
Kyeton Littel shot a 72-74—144 total and James Coon had a 72-75—147 total in two rounds of the two-day tournament at the Waikoloa Kings’ Course, helping the Vulcans finish the day in sixth place with a 597 total.
Carr Vernon shot a 4-under 68 and a 74 for a 142 total, which was matched by teammate Ray Richards (69-73) to Cal State Monterey Bay into first place with a 571 total.
Littel is tied for ninth and Coon 11th. The other Vul golfers are Jared Kinoshita, 76-74—150 T21; Ric Yamamoto, 78-77—155, T42; and David Tottori, 84-76—160, T49.
UC San Diego was second at 591, followed by Saint Martin’s, 593; Wilmington (Del.), 593; Cal State Dominguez Hills, 596; UHH, 597; Concordia (Ore.), 601; Chaminade, 604; Notre Dame de Namur, 607; Hawaii Pacific, 627.
The Vuls have won the last four Rose team titles, and account for the past four individual medalists. But none are on this year’s roster.
