Waimea students visit hospital
A group of students from Elevate Academics Learning Center in Waimea, ranging in age from 3-7, recently spent time with physicians and nurses at North Hawaii Community Hospital learning about what it’s like to visit the doctor.
“Exposing kids to some of the things they may see when they have to visit the doctor or the hospital helps reduce their fear,” said Parin Patel, MD, a general surgeon at North Hawaii Community Hospital.
Kids learned about importance of bicycle helmets and hand washing, and got to see first-hand how thermometers, stethoscopes and otoscopes work.
“We care about kids and anything we can do to help them feel more comfortable makes it better for everyone,” said Gary Goldberg, MD and chief medical officer at North Hawaii Community Hospital.
For information about tours, call the hospital’s special events office at 881-4425.
