Claudia Jean Keanaaina, 89, of Kailua-Kona died Oct. 23 at home. Born in Black Creek, N.Y., she was a retired bookkeeper, whose employers included McDonald’s Restaurants in Kona, charter member of Palo Alto, Calif., and Kona chapter of American Business Women’s Association. Celebration of life noon-3 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 4) at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints outdoor pavilion in Kailua-Kona. Casual attire. Survived by sons, Clay (Maria) Brand of San Jose, Calif., and Clark Brand of Kailua-Kona; stepsons, Sam Keanaaina of Kona, Glen Keanaaina of Captain Cook, Jack Keanaaina of Kailua-Kona and Clyde (Veronica) Keanaaina of Chugiak, Alaska; stepdaughters, Sweetheart Keanaaina and Sandra Matsumoto-Keanaaina of Kailua-Kona, Carol Ann Kala of Keauhou Mauka and Tammy (Stephen) Jones of Naknek, Alaska; two grandchildren; stepgrandchildren, stepgreat-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Henry Paka Leong, 78, of Hilo died Oct. 25 at home. Born in Hilo, he was a retired mason for Isemoto Contracting Co.; apprenticeship teacher at Hawaii Community College, taro farmer, U.S. Navy veteran and a member of New Hope-Hilo. Visitation 6-9 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 8) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation again 9-10 a.m. Monday (Nov. 9) at the chapel. Funeral service at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Mauna Kea Memorial Park. Casual attire. Survived by wife, Patricia Leong of Hilo; sons, Paul Leong of Hilo and Alan Leong of Hilo; brothers, Shepherd (Tita) Lainaholo of Hilo and Robert (Dorothy) Leong of Honolulu; sister, Lily Pa of Hilo; three granddaughters and six great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Mieko “Mae” Shimizu, 91, of Hilo died Oct. 24 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a retired kitchen helper for the former Sky Chef and Restaurant Fuji, member of Hilo Meishoin Mission, Taishoji Soto Mission, Piihonua Community Association and Niigata Kenjin Kai. Services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by son, Calvin Shimizu of Hilo; daughters, Audrey Shimizu, Eloise (David) Kuniyoshi and Bessie (Paul Nagamine) Shimizu of Hilo; brothers-in-law, Muneaki Konishi of California and Kiyoshi (Betty) Shimizu of Colorado; sister-in-law, Kikue Furukawa of Glenwood; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
