Dr. Evyn M. Adams, 95, formerly of Hilo and Kona, died March 4 at Franciscan Hospice House in Tacoma, Wash. Born in Karuizawa, Japan, he was a retired missionary, clergyman and professor of religious studies at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. Memorial and graveside services will be Thanksgiving weekend at Lanakila Congregational Church in Kainaliu, where he was pastor for 12 years. Memorial donations to One Mission Society, Box A, Greenwood, IN 46142, directed for use by account No. 407853, for the education of future missionaries. Survived by daughters, Faith Mishina of Hilo and Betty Andrews of Tacoma.
Nobuko Arakaki, 93, of Pepeekeo died Sept. 24 at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Honomu, she was a retired sugar plantation laborer. Services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by sons, Roy Arakaki of Cupertino, Calif., Alton (Gail) Arakaki of Kauanakakai, Molokai, Earl Arakaki of Keaau and Carl Arakaki of Hilo; daughters, Gladys Hamamura of Cerritos, Calif., and Doris (Henry) Grace of Kailua-Kona; brother, Joe (Violet) Nishihira of Los Angeles; sisters, Ayako Nakamura of Pahala, Harue (Tom) Nolen of Texas and Alice Kameya of Los Angeles; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; nephews, nieces and cousins. Edna May Rapozo, 71, of Kailua-Kona died Oct. 4 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Honolulu, she was a homemaker, hairstylist and owner of the former Rainbow Cutting Co.
