One of Lourdan Kimbrell’s goals as executive director of the Hawaii Museum of Contemporary Art has been to publish books of local interest about the Big Island community. To this end, the museum is offering a big sale on six of its publications.
“Aloha ‘Aina: Big Island Memories,” edited by Frances Sherrard, Kay Yokoyama and Richard Ishikawa was published in 2012. “Aloha ‘Aina Volume II: More Big Island Memories,” edited by Gloria Kobayashi, was released in November 2014. Until Dec. 31, black and white copies are being sold for $25; color copies for $35. All proceeds from these two volumes go toward supporting the arts at East Hawaii Cultural Center.
The children’s book “Stripee Meets the Dorkels,” story and illustrations by Jan Burda, is $8.
Hilo multimedia artist Elfie Wilkins-Nacht’s “Art and Life: A Retrospective” is $25, and Puna impressionist Arthur Johnsen’s “Paintings of the Red Road (Kapoho to Kalapana area)” is $25 in soft cover and $35 in hard cover.
The museum’s latest publication is “Decorative Arts of Oceania.” This volume is $25.
The books are available at the museum, 141 Kalakaua St. Office hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Sales are by cash or checks made out to the “East Hawaii Cultural Council.” Call 961-5711 for more information.
