The Rotary Club of South Hilo provided a boost to three local nonprofit organizations by donating a portion of proceeds raised at its annual Hilo Huli fundraiser to the Hilo Medical Center Foundation, Big Island Substance Abuse Council and Hospice
The Rotary Club of South Hilo provided a boost to three local nonprofit organizations by donating a portion of proceeds raised at its annual Hilo Huli fundraiser to the Hilo Medical Center Foundation, Big Island Substance Abuse Council and Hospice of Hilo.
The Hilo Medical Center Foundation received $5,000 for its Physician Residency Program, BISAC received $2,500 for program support and Hospice of Hilo was given $2,500 to support its free Keiki Bereavement Program.
“We’re incredibly grateful to the Rotary Club of South Hilo for their support and all they do to make our community a better place to live,” said Hospice of Hilo CEO Brenda S. Ho. “The money will help ensure that the keiki in our community can get the support they need during, what can be, a very dark time for them.”
Every year, the Rotary Club of South Hilo host the all-you-can-eat Hilo Huli with a variety of wine, beer and mixed-drink offerings on Coconut Island (Moku Ola) to raise money for various projects in the community. Since its inception, Hilo Huli has raised more than $200,000 for charitable good works. Next year’s event is scheduled for May 1.
“I’m always in awe of the incredible work put forward by our club members to put together an event that people look forward to every year and does so much good for our community,” said Rotary Club of South Hilo president Kim Arakawa.
