HONOLULU — Sai Tummala made a career-high five 3-pointers and finished with 17 points and Roderick Bobbitt added 10 points and a career-high 13 assists Friday night to help Hawaii beat Montana State 87-76 in the season opener for both teams at the Outrigger Resorts Rainbow Classic.
Stefan Jankovic had 15 points with nine rebounds while Aaron Valdez scored 18 for Hawaii.
Tummala scored 11 points, including three consecutive 3-pointers, during a 26-7 run late in the first half to give Hawaii a 22-point lead before going into halftime up 48-27.
Zach Green and Tyler Hall scored 15 apiece for Montana State, which never led.
Hawaii had 21 assists on 32 field goals and shot 52 percent from the field.
Montana State outscored Hawaii 49-39 in the second half and hit 10 3-pointers, but committed 21 turnovers.
