Big Dog 5K is on Thanksgiving

Big Dog 5K is on Thanksgiving

The Big Island Road Runners is sponsoring the “Big Dog Joseph” Memorial Thanksgiving Day 5K Run at 7:30 a.m. Nov. 26.

The race, a benefit for the Wayne Joseph scholarship fund, begins at Coconut Island, and food (non-perishable items) and donations will be accepted.

Non-members may run for a $5 donation.

Sunrise Athletics sign-ups ongoing

Sunrise Athletics is accepting athletes for the 2015-2016 track and field season for ages 6-14 (elementary to middle school).

14-under hoops league forming

County Parks and Recreation will hold a meeting at 5 p.m. Thursday at Aunty Sally’s Luau House for a 14 and under basketball league.

League rules, format and schedules will be discussed, along with distributing team packets.

Top shots

DeLance Wiegele was the top singles shooter Nov. 1 as the Big Island Trap Club participated in a Pacific International Trapshooting Association multiplex shoot at the county trap and skeet range.

Shooting 50 targets, the top guns were Wiegele (50); Neil Arakaki (47) in handicap; Guy Davis (46), doubles; Dexter Egdamin and Ronald Nakamura (45) in sub-gauge.

The next multiplex shoot will be 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Dec. 6.

All shoguns, ammunition and eye and ear protection will be supplied by each individual participant.

Vuls softball Keiki Night

The UH-Hilo softball program will host a Keiki Night fundraiser from 6-9 p.m. Saturday at UH-Hilo gym.

Hosted by coach Peejay Brun, assistant coach Haunani Haasenritter and the squad, the festivities include games, entertainment, refreshments and pizza for keiki in grades 1-8.

Rates are $15 per keiki; sibling deals of two for $25; family plan of three or more at $10 each.
