Kohala youth sports sign-ups

Boys basketball registration for ages 9-14 will be held on Dec. 7 and Dec. 9 at 4-5 p.m. at Hisaoka Gym. Practice will be in late December and early January, with games running through early March. Registration includes uniform.

T-Ball/pitch-ball for ages 5-8 registration will be held at the same time. Practice will be in late December and early January, with games running through early March at Kamehameha Park.

Family golf at Waikoloa

Family golf days at Waikoloa Kings’ Resort has been expanded into a year-round program.

Based on availability after 3:30 p.m. daily, discounted rates are $25 for juniors 6-17 years old, and $50 for adults for nine holes. Complimentary Nike club rentals for juniors are complimentary.

HI-PAL holding Winter Class

The Hawaii Isle Police Activities League will hold its 34th annual Winter Basketball Classic from Dec. 26-29.

Entries are being accepted for the following age groups to be played at the following locations:

• 7-8 at the Edith Kanakaole Multipurpose Stadium

• Boys 9-10 and girls 10 and under at the Edith Kanakaole Multipurpose Stadium

• Boys 11-12 and girls 12-under at Hilo Armory

• Boys 13-14 and girls 14-under at Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium

The age cutoff date is Dec. 31, 2015.

All championship games will be played Dec. 29 at Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.

Registration for 8-and-under teams is $60, and $80 a team for 9 and above. A reduced rate of $25 per team is being offered to attract visiting squads.

The entry deadline is Nov. 27, and each team is required to submit a registration packet, which can be picked up at a police station and at Hawaii Department of Parks and Recreation website. Registration can be mailed or dropped off at the County of Hawaii Department of Parks and Recreation recreation office, attn Winter Basketball Classic, 799 Pi’ilani St., Hilo, HI 96720.

Tickets on sale for Fed Cup

The USTA today announced that tickets for the 2016 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group II First Round between the United States and Poland will go on sale to the general public on Dec. 11, at 10 a.m. An exclusive pre-sale for USTA members will take place on Dec. 9-10.

The best-of-five match series will be played at Holua Tennis Center at Holua Resort on Feb. 6-7. Hawaii will be playing host to Fed Cup for the first time, giving fans a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see this high level of tennis in the state.

From Dec. 11, through Jan. 7, only two-day ticket packages will be sold at prices ranging from $40 to $190 ($20 to $95 per day), representing the greatest initial ticket value. Beginning on Jan. 8, at 10 a.m. HST, two-day packages will no longer be available. Fans will then have access to single-day tickets for Saturday or Sunday with prices ranging from $25 to $100 per day. Pending availability, walk-up tickets will be available at the Holua Tennis Center on the match days only, ranging from $35 to $110 per day.

Play begins on Saturday, Feb. 6, at 11 a.m., with two singles matches. On Sunday, play starts at 10 a.m. with two reverse singles matches and the doubles match. A revised schedule for Sunday may take place if a team clinches in the third or fourth match.
