Daniel “Hawaii 5-0” Kapionuenue Kaeka III, 79, of Hilo and Vineyard Haven, Mass., died Oct. 29 in Keaau. Born on Oahu, he was a retired night watchman at Vineyard Haven Steamship Authority terminal, U.S. Marine Corps veteran during the Korean War and fast-pitch softball and horseshoe pitcher. Private services in Hilo and celebration of life at Martha’s Vineyard, Mass., at a later date. Survived by wife, Shirley Vincent Kaeka of Hilo; sons, Daniel Kapionuenue (Sue) Kaeka IV, Daryl Kalani Kaeka, Dennis Kealoha Kaeka and Dwight Kimo (Beth) Kaeka of West Tisbury, Mass.; daughter, Hannah Kaloke (Jonathan) Scott of West Tisbury, Mass.; sisters, Velma Lou Keanuenue of Napa Valley, Calif., and Kathryn Louise Nakoa of Nanakuli, Oahu; brother, Rodney Kaluikaulana Kaeka of Pahoa; half-brothers, Dennis Kaeka and Edward Kaeka of Oahu, Henano Kaeka of Colorado; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. William “Uncle Billy” Hauwawaikaleoonamanuonakanahele Johnson Paris Jr., 92, of Lehuula Nui died Nov. 14 at Kona Community Hospital. Born December 18, 1922, in Honolulu, he was owner of Palika Family Ranch, Kona historian, member of the Paniolo Hall of Fame, U.S. Army World War II veteran who also served in the Hawaii Army National Guard, former deacon and past kahu pono at Lanakila Congregational Church, former trustee of Hawaii Conference Foundation, member of Lions Club of Kona, American Legion Post 20, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 7, Hawaii Cattlemen’s Association, Kainaliu Kumiai, Kona Soil and Water Conservation District and also served on the county’s Transportation and Planning Commissions and Board of Appeals. Visitation 8:30-10 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, at the family’s home, 79-7345 Mamalahoa Highway in Lehuula Nui. Celebration of life at 10 a.m. Private internment to follow. Casual attire.
