Airman finishes basic training

U.S. Air Force Airman Taysia-Lynn K. Genobaga-Arneho graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Genobaga-Arneho is the daughter of Brandyann L. and William E. Kerr of Keaau. She is a 2015 graduate of Keaau High School.

Rotary welcomes wedding expert

The Rotary Club of South Hilo recently inducted its newest member, Christen Zulli.

Zulli, along with her husband, Luke, are the owners of Big Island Small Wedding.

The Rotary Club of South Hilo is an organization made up of local business, professional and civic leaders who meet regularly to form great friendships and do good works.

Cooper Center or Black Friday?

Cooper Center in Volcano is offering an alternative to traditional Black Friday shopping.

From 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, there will be approximately 25 local artisans and crafters in the main building and lanai selling their wares.

While browsing, there will be coffee, tea, hot soup, Indian flat bread, Mai bacon and more for shoppers. The Tuk Tuk truck, noted for its great food and prices by Trip Advisor, will sell Thai and other Asian meals.

Public invited to HPA exhibit

The Hawaii Preparatory Academy Isaacs Art Center’s art show, “Celebrating a Century of Memories,” commemorates the 100th anniversary of the center’s historic schoolhouse gallery and several exceptional painters of the time.

The show, which is free and open to the public, runs through Dec. 19.

The exhibit showcases paintings by Jules Tavernier, Charles Furneaux, D. Howard Hitchcock, Theodore Wores, Alfred Gurrey Sr., Lloyd Sexton and Martha Greenwell. Iconic prints by Charles Bartlett and watercolors by Helen Kelley also are on display.

The Isaacs Art Center is located in Waimea, next to HPA’s Village Campus. The center is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Proceeds benefit the HPA Scholarship Fund.
