Back by popular demand, the Kona Harp Ensemble returns to ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center for two holiday concerts, at 6 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Sunday.

The ensemble also will perform at 6 p.m. Dec. 19 at the Kahilu Theater in Waimea.

Kona Harp Ensemble’s beautiful blend of multiple harps, various traditional flutes, a synth and percussion are sure to put concertgoers in the holiday mood while they perform “under the stars” of the ‘Imiloa Planetarium.

Friday’s event will begin with a Wine and Cheese Hour at 6 p.m. followed by the concert at 7. A variety of cheeses, breads, fruits, cured meats, nuts, desserts and more will be included with one glass of wine. Additional glasses of wine will be available on a cash bar basis. Tickets are $45 for members and $50 for nonmembers.

Saturday’s event will be a concert only. Tickets are $20 for members and $25 for nonmembers.

In preparation for their “Cherish the Child” concert at the Kahilu, ensemble members have been immersing themselves in their Celtic and world music.

By combining the clear, soft note of the Celtic harp with the bold and commanding chords produced by two concert strung harps the ensemble has created a trio of shimmering and ethereal sounds.

“To be a true harpist, one must be able to make people laugh with your music, cry with your music and dream with your music,” said ensemble member Bernice Roberto, lever harpist and vocalist, quoting Ireland’s 15th century national composer Turlough O’Carolan. “We added a fourth: Transcend people with your music. That is the goal of our concert.”

The Kona Harp Ensemble has been playing together for five years and is happy to announce the release of their Christmas CD.

“It was such an inspiration for us to work on this recording,” (attribution). “The mutual inspiration in the ensemble helped to create the most ethereal, spiritual and transcendent sound for the music of the holiday season.”

Tickets for the Kahilu Theater performance are $15, $20, $25 and $30 and can be purchased online at http://kahilutheatre.org/Shows/2015-December. RSVP recommended. Tickets also will be available at the door the day of the show.
