Since 2002, Project Hawaii Inc. elves have provided holiday cheer for thousands of homeless children around the island. This year is no different.
Project Hawaii invited 350 homeless and poverty-stricken children to attend its grand Holiday Christmas Party in Hilo to enjoy “Santa and Me” photos, special gifts, games with life-necessity prizes, make-and-take crafts and a hot, healthy meal. For the security of the children, the time, date and location will not be published.
A fundraiser and toy collection is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Dec. 19 at the First Hawaiian Bank parking lot of the Prince Kuhio Plaza. There will be an orientation for volunteers, who in turn will help throughout the event to spread awareness and raise funds. The most-needed toys include baby dolls, trucks, Barbie dolls, “Star Wars” items, puzzles, board games, action figures and baby toys.
Through the years, director Magin Patrick and her dedicated volunteer elves “have seen the smiling faces, touched the hearts of these precious children and shared the joy that Santa brings,” Patrick said. “This year, elves are in shorter supply than usual and sponsorship has been down.
“We’re calling out to those who wish to make a difference in the lives of these needy keiki and help save this holiday party.”
Project Hawaii Inc. operates 100 percent by volunteers and is solely supported by public donations.
