More than 30 archers from throughout the state competed at the recent Hawaii Island Archery Club State Indoor Shoot at the Waiakea Recreation Center range in Hilo.

The event was sanctioned by the National Field Archery Association. Archers shot at five spot or single spot targets at 20 yards, five arrows per round with a total of 60 arrows per session for two days.

Jeff Ochi and Saya Mashiyama were chairpersons of the event, which saw some excellent scores and good sportsmanship.

HIAC thanks James Organ, Rose Organ and Jesse Lucas for the lunches; registration attendants Darlene Maldonado and Lavada Salas; Steve Parente for graphics and advertisement; Robin Kow for target preparation; and all the club members for target bale setup.

The next tournament will be at Puunene, Pohakuloa on Feb. 20, 2016. The Hawaii Island Archery Club hosts practice sessions 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and Friday.

The Hilo club’s goals are to promote the sport of archery-hunting and target shooting.
