The performance: The Kamehameha boys basketball team had three different leading scorers in three games at the Cardinal Classic, but Manliguis did major damage when it counted the most.
The senior scored 21 of his 26 points in the second half of Saturday’s championship game, leading the Warriors to a 63-55 victory against Konawaena in a rematch of the 2015 BIIF Division I final.
Manliguis’ preseason handiwork is a big reason why Kamehameha has a chance to unseat the three-time defending champion Wildcats. The Warriors last won the BIIF title in 2012.
He was part of Kamehameha’s historic football team last season as a junior when the Warriors captured the BIIF Division II title over Kona and won the school’s first game at the HHSAA state tournament, beating Nanakuli.
Manliguis was named to the All-BIIF Division II first team at receiver as a junior and senior. This past season, he also was selected to the first team at defensive back.
He and fellow senior teammate Pukana Vincent landed on basketball’s All-BIIF Division I first team as juniors last season.
At the Cardinal Classic championship, Manliguis, who buried three 3-pointers and scored almost at will, reminded folks why basketball is his best sport.
In the final of the Waiakea-Keaau tournament the previous Saturday, Manliguis tallied 12 in a victory against Hawaii Prep.
