The Pacific Division commander of the Combat Infantrymen’s Association will honor members of Hilo Company A on Dec. 26 at Coqui’s Hideaway.
Commander William Castro will host a steak and eggs brunch for all U.S. Army veterans who’ve been awarded the Combat Infantryman’s Badge.

Kohala nonprofit given $20,000
North Kohala Community Resource Center was selected as one of 52 winners from across the country in the seventh annual Tom’s of Maine “50 States for Good” community giving program.
The nonprofit resource center will receive $20,000 to provide operational support for its work as a sponsor for more than 90 projects that benefit the North Kohala community.
NKCRC staff work directly with community project organizers to provide coaching, training, support and access to funding.
Tom’s of Maine, a leading natural products company focused on oral and personal care, gives 10 percent of its profits back to organizations that support people and the planet.

Project Grad receives $8,000
Kealakehe High School Project Grad recently received grants totaling $8,000 from Hawaii Community Foundation’s Kukio Community Fund and West Hawaii Fund (supported by the Stanley &Renee Tomono Family Fund).
The grants will go toward the $30,000 needed to continue the school’s Project Grad mission to provide a safe and secure, alcohol-, tobacco- and drug-free annual event, offering an alternative to dangerous and potentially fatal celebrations.
