Aloha Hills Kona Coffee Co. heralds another new year with live jazz music, sponsoring the fifth annual Kona Jazz Experience starting at 7 p.m. Jan. 9 at the historic Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu.
The Kona Jazz Experience’s mission is to bring high-quality live jazz performances to the people of the Big Island.
This year’s concert opens with Bethany’s Trio, featuring Sarah Bethany on vocals and keyboard, Brian Crist on bass and Michael Suprenant on drums. Bethany formed this band to perform her original music as well as covers of her favorite artists. The group performed recently at the third annual East Hawaii Jazz and Blues Festival at Nani Mau Gardens. Special guest Loren Wilken will join the trio on keyboards.
Headlining the show is the Bill Noble Jazz Ensemble, which features the incomparable Noble on alto saxophone, Andrea Lindborg on trumpet, Jesse Snyder on tenor saxophone, Vince D’Angelo on trombone, Wilken on piano, Crist on bass and Suprenant on drums. Jazz fans will be familiar with these well-known local artists, who perform regularly on the island and beyond.
Tickets are available online at AlohaTheatre.com, at the theater box office one hour before performance time or by calling 322-9924 between 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit Aloha Performing Arts Co.
